Keeping Motivated When On A Diet.
Starting a diet needs motivation. Keeping motivated when on a diet is a sticking point for some people, so much so in some cases you may feel like giving up.
We embark on this journey because were overweight and we want to do something about it. The actual diet you decide on may be the reason why many people lose motivation.
Your diet needs to fit in with what you do in life and more importantly it needs to give you consistent results not just at the beginning but as you proceed along. If the diet doesn’t suit you then change it.
Being Overweight Can Cause: High Cholesterol Levels, Diabetes, Fatty Liver Disease, Heart Strain, Joint Problems and the list goes on and on. Just one of these should be enough to convince you to loss that weight.
Five Tips to Keeping Motivated On A Diet.
Tip No. 1. Make the right choice of diet in the beginning. Do some research because not all diets will give you the same results. Some weight loss programs can cause more problems later on.
Ask yourself some questions.
What do you want the end result to be?
How long do you think you need to stay on the diet?
Is the diet simply to shed a few pounds or a more long term lifestyle change?
Answering a series of questions and actually writing them down gives you a reference point so at any time you feel disheartened you can go back and look at why you started this in the first place.
Tip No. 2. Formulate a plan week by week. People seem to stick to something a lot easier when the have a plan.
Start by making a meal plan so that you know in advance what you will be eating on any particular day and make sure that you have got everything you need to make those meals.
Tip No. 3. Set small and achievable weight loss goals! At the start weight loss is relatively easy and in most cases that is enough motivation to stick to it. However the longer it goes on keeping diet motivation becomes the problem.
Set weekly goals and slightly longer term goals. I personally don’t recommend going and buying a desired item of clothing that you want to eventually fit into. This sometimes acts as a negative goal.
Tip No.4. Be Accountable To YOURSELF! We are ultimately accountable for all our decisions. It’s so easy to blame other things and people when we come up short but all said and done we are responsible.
Look at what has caused this de-motivational state and come up with a solution to get past it. Sometimes just talking with someone who has lost the weight you want to lose can help.
Tip No. 5. STAY FOCUSED! Always keep in mind the reasons why you want to lose weight. See yourself wearing that bikini or dress or suit.
Bonus Tip. Add in a Cheat Day. If you’re just starting out on a particular weight loss diet then I don’t recommend this until you have gotten into the swing of things.
